Cultivating UGM’s premier UI/UX community

Komunitas Mahasiswa Teknologi Informasi (KOMATIK UGM) is Universitas Gadjah Mada’s official student technology contingent tasked with delegating and training student competitors for prestigious national ICT competitions such as GEMASTIK. Within KOMATIK, UXGAMA serves as the dedicated community chapter for User Experience and Product Design.

As Head of Internal Affairs, I was responsible for the organizational backbone of UXGAMA—leading talent recruitment, nurturing team culture, and creating a supportive learning environment for aspiring product designers.

• Role: Head of Internal Affairs
• Core Functions: Member recruitment, candidate screening & interviews, division placement, internal welfare, and mentoring frameworks
• Community Reach: Coordinating multidisciplinary designers across Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, and Social Sciences

Building an internal culture of design critique

Great design does not happen in isolation. One of my core initiatives was instituting structured peer design reviews and case study teardowns. We encouraged members to present their work-in-progress UI flows, user research findings, and wireframes to get honest, constructive feedback from their peers.

This regular feedback loop significantly sharpened the competitive quality of our teams’ proposals for national competitions, while creating genuine camaraderie among members.

Operational cohesion in student organizations

Leading internal affairs taught me that community longevity depends on human relationships. By maintaining regular check-ins, resolving cross-team friction, and aligning member goals with the community’s competition milestones, we sustained high engagement and active participation throughout the academic year.
