Edutech Startup · External Technical Consultant · Acquired by Lumina (YC W22)
Opportunest was an education-technology startup founded by colleagues from Universitas Gadjah Mada to bridge university students with corporate opportunities, structured mentorship, and professional career readiness.
Over its operational lifecycle, the platform scaled rapidly to reach hundreds of thousands of users across social channels and digital touchpoints, delivering high-impact career preparation products before being acquired by Lumina (Y Combinator W22).
Executive Summary
I worked alongside Opportunest’s founding team as an external digital product and web architecture consultant. My engagement centered on architecting, building, and maintaining the central web platform, designing automated transaction pipelines for career development services (simulated mock interviews, ATS resume reviews, mentorship bookings), and establishing scalable digital operational workflows.
Challenges & Strategy
To support high-velocity user acquisition with lean operational overhead, we engineered a scalable, responsive digital ecosystem utilizing WordPress, Elementor Pro, and WooCommerce, tightly integrated with Midtrans Payment Gateway for automated transaction settlement in Indonesian Rupiah.
- Automated Payment Settlement: Implemented sandbox-tested Midtrans payment workflows (Virtual Accounts, QRIS, e-Wallets) ensuring frictionless checkout for students nationwide.
- Transactional Email Infrastructure: Built automated email notification triggers and invoice delivery systems to support instant booking confirmations and post-purchase onboarding.
- Responsive On-Device Testing: Conducted cross-browser and multi-device viewport testing across mobile, tablet, and desktop environments to ensure seamless access for mobile-first student traffic.
Key Outputs & Results
- Large-Scale Traction: Supported the platform in scaling to impact over 100,000+ students and partner with 20,000+ leading companies and student organizations.
- 350% Audience Growth: Enabled a 350% surge in core digital audiences while sustaining a >90% user satisfaction rating across service verticals.
- Successful Startup M&A: When Opportunest was officially acquired by Lumina (Y Combinator W22), I supported the founding team with technical handover, asset consolidation, and digital infrastructure integration.
