Sales Analytics Apprentice, Sales & Commercial Development
Jakarta, Indonesia, Nov 2025 – May 2026
My apprenticeship at Nestlé sat at the intersection of sales analytics, commercial development, and route-to-market operations. Working within a large FMCG distribution network gave me direct exposure to a problem that is easy to underestimate from the outside: commercial teams can only make good decisions when the underlying field data is reliable.
A major part of my work focused on distributor and outlet master data. As distribution networks evolve, outlets may be renamed, reassigned, merged, or recorded differently across field operations and central systems. These inconsistencies can gradually affect how sales teams understand their coverage, plan territories, target outlets, and evaluate commercial performance.
To address this, I worked on an outlet matching and entity resolution system that connected fragmented records across historical distributor datasets. The work combined commercial context with data analysis, because resolving an outlet was rarely just a matter of finding a similar name. Location, distributor relationships, account structures, field practices, and other operational signals all had to be considered before records could be treated as the same entity.
The project eventually developed into a broader set of internal tools designed to make master data easier to search, validate, and maintain. I worked across Excel-based automation, PowerApps prototypes, and supporting data workflows, with the goal of reducing repetitive manual investigation while giving commercial teams more confidence in the information they were using.
Beyond analytics, I also became involved in internal digitalization initiatives. These included workflow automation, a training microsite, and concepts for improving Power Platform adoption among apprentices and associates. The experience helped me understand digital transformation from a practical perspective: useful tools do not always need to be complex, but they need to fit naturally into the way people already work.
Alongside my core role, I was elected to lead the apprentice cohort and coordinated a rotational internal training program involving teams across the Jakarta headquarters and manufacturing sites. The role involved stakeholder coordination, logistics, budgeting, communication, and working across functions such as People Services, IT, and Supply Chain. I also contributed to employer branding initiatives for Nestlé Careers Indonesia with the wider creative team.
What stayed with me most from the apprenticeship was the relationship between data and operational trust. Building matching logic was only one part of the problem. Understanding how outlets were actually created, changed, and managed in the field was just as important.
That experience shaped how I now approach digital products and operational systems. A dashboard, workflow, or internal tool can only become genuinely useful when people trust the information behind it and understand how it connects to the reality of their day-to-day work.
